Meet Karin Ellis, author of 'Working with Norwegians'
and get insider's tips about Norwegian workplace culture
Would you play chess or poker without learning the rules of the game first? Dealing with Norwegians without understanding their way may be quite like playing the game without knowing the rules. Norwegian workplaces are driven by a set of rules which are very different from those in other western cultures. This little known fact may therefore cause confusions and misunderstandings for newcomers in Norwegian workplaces. The book explains in a clear and accessible way why Norwegians think and act as they do and what they expect, and it will engage you in reflection upon social norms and values and what is considered acceptable behaviour in Norway.
This book is also published in Norwegian under the title 'Kunsten å arbeide med nordmenn'. It is also relevant for Norwegians who want to learn what people from other cultures find hard to deal with in their workplaces and social life.
The author of 'Working with Norwegians', Karin Ellis, has more than 30 years' professional experience from Norwegian companies with a global footprint, both as an employee and as an employer. In 2011 she founded Ellis Culture to be able to live out her passion for developing and conducting intercultural trainings. She will tell you what inspired her to write the book and share some of the useful and practical tips from the book.
You should not miss this chance to ask Karin questions related to working and living in Norway. And If you are interested in the book, you will also be able to buy it at a special price during the event.
Meet Karin Ellis, author of 'Working with Norwegians'
Work is THE THING in Norway and a recipe for almost all social issues. At the same time it is not always easy to find a way into the labour market, and some groups are at a bigger disadvantage than others.
Our project Network for Work wants to help people who followed their partners to Norway find ways to re-build the networks they left behind, both social and professional, and thus find ways to enter the Norwegian labour market.
